CAS Advances Producer Price Index (PPI) Launch with Industrial Sector Collaboration in Lebanon

As part of the preparations by the Central Administration of Statistics (CAS) to launch the Producer Price Index (PPI) in Lebanon, Dr. Alissar Nasser and Ms. Hassana Dawood visited Industrial Engineer Mr. Abdel Khoder, Director General of Modern Conserves Company – Chtoura, where the trial version of the survey form was presented. The visit aimed to verify the clarity of the questions and the accuracy of the concepts used, as an essential first step toward developing an index that effectively reflects changes in goods prices at the producer level and contributes to a better understanding of price dynamics in the Lebanese economy. The Producer Price Index is a key economic indicator, measuring price changes at the initial sale level by the producer, i.e., before goods reach the final consumer. It complements the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which CAS publishes monthly, by providing a more comprehensive view of price trends from production to consumption. This integration between the two indices serves as an important analytical tool, helping policymakers and economic analysts track inflation and better understand market developments and value chains. We extend our thanks to Engineer Abdel Khoder for his kind reception and fruitful cooperation. In this context, we invite all industrialists to contribute to this national effort by collaborating with the teams and providing accurate information. The success of this index depends on the precision of the data provided by producers, which in turn positively impacts the development of economic policies and supports the industrial sector, a cornerstone of Lebanon’s economic growth.
